Four-star 2017 post Evan Battey commits to Colorado

Colorado landed its third four-star commitment in its 2017 class when Evan Battey pledged to the Buffs. He discussed his commitment with Scout.

Colorado landed a big piece to its 2017 class on Tuesday when Evan Battey pledged to the Buffs.

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound post from Villa Park (Calif.) is an extremely versatile player who can face up bigger opponents and post up smaller ones, while he’s also a very good passer and rebounder.

Battey will join the Buffs next season, he told Scout.

“I’m going to Colorado,” Battey said. “I just feel like it was home. I felt at home with the players and coaching staff.

“The coaches are a bunch of good guys. Coach (Bill) Grier and (Tad) Boyle are really good dudes. They’re really genuine people and good guys.”

On Battey’s official visit weekend to Boulder he was joined by four-star prospects D'shawn Schwartz and Tyler Bey, who both pledged to Colorado while on campus.

The camaraderie that Battey built with Schwartz and Bey played a big role in his decision.

“We all bonded on the visit,” Battey said. “It was important to be on campus with those guys. I think when you bond with your future teammates you get a better feel for what your college experience is going to be like.”

The four-star prospect has big expectations for himself and CU while on campus.

“I’ll play my game,” Battey said. “I’ll be wherever coach wants me to play. I’m going to try and get a double-double every game. With this recruiting class, we want to win the Pac-12.”
