Maybe the breakout star of the entire summer was Houston area product Jase Febres. Febres shined for Texas PRO during the month of July showing off his impressive combination of athleticism, size, and three point shooting on the wing.
Febres informed Scout.com of his decision to commit saying “I have decided to commit to the University of Texas."
In the end Febres selected the Longhorns over Baylor, Houston, Stanford, and Texas A&M.
About the decision, Febres said, "I picked the school because I love the atmosphere and the family feel. Everything about the coaching staff and the way the guys make you feel a part of their family was huge."
He continued, "Also I think we're building a championship caliber team. I can't wait to be a part of great things at Texas."
This is big for Texas. Not only does it give them a third top 100 commitment, but it adds some much needed shot making to the roster.
While Texas didn’t necessarily have a total lack of shooters, the reality is any time you can get a kid with Febres’ size, athleticism, and shooting ability, it gives the roster a dynamic player who is capable of being a major problem for opposing defenses.
Febres is also a huge recruiting win for Texas because it came over Houston, who had the longest standing relationship with the kid, and Baylor, the place Febres dreamed of going and where he grew up.
