Tom Izzo has been looking to add to his frontcourt, and over the past few weeks he did that significantly. Friday it was Xavier Tillman who selected the Spartans over offers from Marquette and Purdue.
"I just feel that Michigan State is the place where I can best reach my goals as a basketball player and as a student," he announced at a Ceremony at his school.
At 6-foot-7 Tillman is an old school power forward who is a bit of a new age center. He is slightly undersized, but there is no doubting Tillman's production. The hard playing and high motor Tillman averaged 11.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the EYBL this summer running with Spiece Indy Heat.
Tillman is a tough kid who thrives on being physical on the low block. He will need to continue to get into better shape, but he has the toughness and heart that Izzo loves in a prospect.
This is the second commitment for Michigan State. Tillman now joins his AAU teammate, Jaren Jackson in the Michigan State recruiting class.
