2018 recruit Emmitt Williams showed up at the John Lucas Midwest Invitational with something to prove.
Williams, a 6-foot-7 energetic forward out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, used his athleticism, strength and non-stop motor to dominate the competition at the event.
“I think I played well,” Williams said. “It’s good to get my name out there even though I went quiet for a little bit.”
“That’s one thing a lot of say about me,” he responded when asked about his motor. “I play with a lot of energy and I like to do that because once I show that everyone does. I like to get the whole team running.”
Williams, a four-star prospect on Scout, said he plays with a purpose when he’s on the court.
“I play with a chip on my shoulder, so when I play I’m doing it for a reason, not just out there to have fun,” he said. “I’m out there to feed my family. This is my full time job so I have a meaning to it.”
According to Williams, the next step in his development is expanding his skill set and scoring ability in the paint.
“Just always trying to improve my dribbling, handling, post moves and shot,” he said. “There’s always something to work on.”
Williams ranks as the No. 55 overall prospect and No. 13 power forward in the 2018 class, so it’s no surprise that a number of high major programs are showing interest in him.
“The recruiting process is going great,” Williams said. “I’m very open to everybody. Right now I haven’t cut my list. I’m open to everyone and just enjoying my junior year. I’ll cut my list my senior year.”
This coming weekend, Williams plans to take an unofficial visit to Miami (Fl). Among the other schools recruiting him are
