DePaul lands athletic big man Jaylen Butz

DePaul dipped into Indiana for a second time in the 2017 recruiting cycle and landed big man Jaylen Butz.

The DePaul Blue Demons got their second commitment out of the state of Indiana in the class of 2017 on Thursday afternoon. Long and athletic big man Jaylen Butz picked DePaul over Ball State and Indiana State after school giving the Blue Demons a fairly high upside and developing big man.

At nearly 6-foot-9 with long arms, Butz really began to turn the corner this spring while playing with Spiece Indy Heat in the EYBL. Unfortunately Butz would injure his foot during May, and that limited his production the rest of the summer, but the potential is still there for him.

"Everything was just great when I visited there," said Butz of DePaul. "Everyone just made me feel welcomed and it was clear that they wanted me to be a part of their program. I felt very comfortable with the coaching staff and the players."

Butz averaged 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game with Indy Heat playing limited minutes in a very crowded frontline. With his ability rebound and his athleticism, he provides a bit of a shot blocking presence as well.

This is the second commitment for the Blue Demons, as Butz joins AAU teammate Justin Roberts on the Blue Demons commitment list.

Look for Butz to take a little bit of time to be a major producer at the college level, but with an opportunity to play and some major physical tools to work with, in time Butz could be someone who is a fixture in the starting lineup, and someone that has a very solid college career.
