Braxton Beverly

High level scorer Braxton Beverly has committed to Ohio State

Hargrave Military Academy has been good to Ohio State under Thad Matta, and the Buckeyes landed another product of the school on Monday following his official visit.

The Ohio State Buckeyes hosted an official visitor over the weekend, and it didn't take long for Braxton Beverly to pull the trigger and commit to the Big Ten school. Thad Matta and his staff focused on Beverly during the month of July and followed him in the fall. Now Matta has the second member of his 2017 recruiting class.

There has been no doubt that Matta and his staff have wanted to focus on players who fit into their system and the culture they want. One player who they felt would fit into both was Beverly. A tough kid who is a competitor that can really shoot the ball, Beverly came onto the Ohio State radar late, and the Buckeyes really liked him.

Following his official visit to the school, Beverly committed to the Buckeyes according to Hargrave coach A.W. Hamilton.

"It is an exciting day for us," said Hamilton. "Braxton Beverly has committed to Ohio State and we are very excited."

According to Hamilton, Ohio State got their first extended look at Beverly last year, and when he got his release from Miami-Ohio this fall, they began recruiting him hard.

"We had Derek Funderburk last year, so Ohio State and Coach Matta had a chance to see Braxton a lot," said Hamilton. "When he got back here this fall and got his release, Ohio State started to really pick up the interest. The job that Coach Matta, Coach (Greg) Paulus, and Coach (Dave) Dickerson did recruiting him was tremendous."

He continued, "I think it is the perfect fit for Braxton. When he went there on his visit there was no doubt that Ohio State was the right choice for him, and he decided it was the place to continue his education and his basketball career."

While Beverly has been a bit off the radar, Hamilton says Buckeye fans should expect big things from their newest commitment.

"There is something magical about Braxton Beverly," said Hamilton. "He scored 70 in a game last year for us, and I took him out with 10 minutes to go. He could have had 100 had I left him in."

Hamilton continued, "We won the national title, and Braxton was tremendous during the tournament. He is a tough as nails kids who brings it every day and he is a tremendous shooter. I think Braxton Beverly is the type of player who will bring Ohio State back to the Final Four."

This is the second commitment in the class for the Buckeyes. He joins four-star center Kaleb Wesson
