Vandy, Utah Land Recruits

In recent days, Vanderbilt and Utah received verbal commitments. Here's the latest on each program's new player.

The Vanderbilt Commodores now hold two commitments from the Class of 2004. Following the addition of point guard Alex Gordon, Kevin Stallings' team added John Carroll small forward DeMarre Carroll.

Last season, Carroll averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds a contest for his state champion high school team. Carroll is the nephew of UAB head coach Mike Anderson.

"I think Vanderbilt is getting a steal," Carroll coach Marty Smith told The Birmingham News. "DeMarre has ability to be a great 3 guard in the SEC. I think having a chance to play in the SEC and play for a coach like Coach Stallings is a big reason for the decision. He track record working with players at DeMarre's position speaks for itself."

Across the country in Utah, the Utes landed a power forward. Lamar (CO) High's Brian Anderson.

His commitment is the first for Rick Majerus this season. Anderson competed for the Colorado Chaos team this past spring and summer.

Chaos coach David Matthews on Anderson's commitment: "The University of Utah couldn't be getting a better person, both on and off the court. Anderson is one of the most well rounded high school students I have ever met. … Anderson has great bloodlines; his brother was a standout at BYU and Florida State and both of his sisters were Division I athletes."
