Florida has lost a key pledge from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Bad news hit the Florida Gators on Monday as top rated commitment Shai Gilgeous-Alexander re-opened his recruitment.

In November of 2015 it looked like the Florida Gators had a key piece to their 2017 recruiting class locked down early. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander committed to Mike White and his squad giving them a top 50 player, but now he has decided to re-open his recruitment.

"Shai has indeed de-committed from Florida," said Hamilton Heights coach Zach Ferrell.

Gilgeous-Alexander is a big guard who can play on and off the ball. His greatest value however is in his play making ability when he has the ball in his hands, and his ability to make others better.

Now that he is de-committed, Gilgeous-Alexander becomes one of the best available point guards in the class of 2017. It is likely that high-major schools will come in to see him, and likely very quickly.

Florida remains an option for Gilgeous-Alexander, but this is a tough blow for White and his staff who still have two commitments.
