Yates Picks BSU As A Junior
Darren Yates, a 6-2 swingman and member of the Class of 2003, committed to Tim Buckley's program this week.
"He verbally committed to Ball State," Coach Bullington of Indianapolis Pike told BCH. "I know that he came down to open gym last week and his family visited the weekend prior."
As a sophomore, Yates played mostly on the junior varsity program. However, he gained more exposure this summer traveling with Gary Betts and Gerald Robinson's No Excuses AAU team.
"He can stroke it," Betts said. "We are still working with him at the point. He's strong and he plays with attitude. He's one of these type of kids that a mid-major would be great for him but he can play above that."
Bullington, in his first year at Pike, thinks his future is bright. "He's a wing player and he's continuing to work on his ball handling. He's kind of a rugged player. He's not afraid to use his body and bang people around a little bit." Last year, Pike won the Indiana state championship.
