Xavier Rounds Out Class With Forward

The Xavier Musketeers have finished off their recruiting efforts for the 2002 year. Head coach Thad Matta and his staff has commitments from five players – a point guard and four forwards – and now turn their attention to members of the Class of 2003.

Xavier Lands Anthony Myles

Thad Matta and his staff have reached the NCAA-mandated scholarship limit of five per year. This week, Xavier was able to procure a commitment from Olney Central JC power forward Anthony Myles.

Miles joins PG Dedrick Finn, PF Ethan Cole, PF Randy Holbrook and PF Angelo Smith. Obviously, the class is loaded with inside help as Xavier prepares for the loss of David West.

"The program and academics and basketball were big and all their power forwards are successful," Myles said. The former Chicago (IL) Harper forward also considered Illinois, Iowa State and UNC-Wilmington. He averaged 10.5 points a game last year.

"From what I see I think I can be a big help to their team and hopefully a big factor," Myles said.

Thad Matta and his staff, in its first year at Xavier, have signed a class that is really going to help them challenge for an Atlantic-10 title in the years to come. Xavier increased its frontline depth exponentially and the addition at Finn, who will eventually run the point, is key to their success.
