Four-star big man Trevion Williams has a unique combination of size and skill. Offensively he can score inside or out, and he is also working to improve his conditioning. With that college coaches continue to take notice, and he made a recent visit.
Already Williams has offers from Michigan State, Xavier, Illinois, DePaul, UNLV and Detroit. Also interest is coming in from Kentucky, Wisconsin, Purdue, Cincinnati, Boston College, and Notre Dame.
Most recently Williams made a visit to Xavier for their Musketeer Madness event, and he came away impressed with what he saw.
“The Midnight Madness was really fun,” said Williams. “That was the first one of those I went to. The Xavier players did some nice dunks and it was fun to see.”
He continued, “I like the Xavier coaches. When they offered me they explained to me how I played and exactly how he sees me fitting into their system. He showed me that they like to play fast, and what role I would have. They believe I have the potential to play there, and be successful. Our relationship just keeps getting stronger and stronger.”
A school that has had Williams on campus in the past is Michigan State. The Spartans have long been considered one of the favorites for Williams, and he really likes the coaches in East Lansing.
“The coaching staff really likes me,” said Williams of Michigan State. “They have shown me good hospitality every time I have visited and Coach (Tom) Izzo is really on me. He talks to me all the time and he is a really fun guy. I would love to be coached by him.”
Another school that has very strongly been recruiting Williams is Illinois. Williams is initially from Chicago, so there are ties to the state.
Williams was supposed to visit Illinois this past weekend, but he wasn’t able to make the trip at the last minute. Still he likes the program, and continues to hope he learns more.
“I don’t know too much about Illinois, but in the past I saw a couple of players who went there and been successful,” said Williams. “When I was in Chicago my dad took me to one of their games for a birthday party, so I have been watching them for a quite a while.”
For now Williams says he is in no hurry to make a college decision, but he is trying to gain as much information as he can about the schools recruiting him.
“Me and my uncle are just taking it all in, and I am trying to stay humble,” said Williams. “We are pretty much hearing from everybody that we can, and seeing what everybody has to offer. We are looking at all of the schools. We are taking a peak at what schools have and what the system is like. I am going to critique myself this year and see which programs are where I would fit and where would be a good home for me.”
