"I got together with my parents, my high school coach and my AAu coach, and narrowed it down to four schools," Richards said. "Arkansas, Texas Tech, Southwest Missouri State and Tulsa. I'll leave the fifth spot open for now."
When asked if he had a current favorite, Richards said, "I don't really have one. If I had to pick it'd be Tulsa. But it's just because we've been talking a lot with them lately." Richards, who improved his stock this summer, said he hasn't arranged for any official visits as of yet, but has scheduled some in-home visits. "SMS will be at my house on September 9th; Texas Tech, Coach Knight, on September 10th; Arkansas September 11th, and Tulsa on the 12th."
Even though he said he's "more or less" down to those four schools, Richards did say he's leaving the door slightly ajar for a fifth school. "There's a possibility of someone like Iowa State, Oklahoma, Marquette or Michigan State, and I'm leaving that open. But right now, it's those four."
Richards said a big influence on his decision was going to a school with a small-college—town atmosphere. "I wasn't looking for a huge college," he said. "I was looking for something smaller. And it ended up, too, that all of the schools were close to home."
He plans on taking his official visits beginning in September and said he'd like to make a decision by the end of October.
