D'shawn Schwartz

Breaking down Colorado's 2017 Recruiting Class on Signing Day

Here is a look at what went right, what went wrong, and what is still left to do for Tad Boyle and his staff as we head into the fall signing period.

What went right?

For Colorado, this staff really hit a home run, as every prospect it focused on it landed.

The class starts with local small forward D'shawn Schwartz, Scout's 81st ranked prospect in the 2017 class. The four-star wing is a versatile player who will be able to play multiple positions on offense and defense. Schwartz is a plus shooter who can rebound and pass. Tad Boyle and company landed an important piece of the puzzle moving forward with Schwartz.

Another four-star prospect heading to Boulder is Tyler Bey. The Las Vegas native is a long and versatile athlete who will be able to play the three and the four for CU. Bey has come a long way over his high school career, as he's transitioned from an undersized four to a small forward who has made great strides as a shooter, ball handler and passer.

CU landed a third four-star prospect in Evan Battey. One of the most unique prospects in the country, Battey is a mismatch nightmare on offense. He's an undersized post who can shoot, rebound and pass. While Battey will have to be used creatively on defense, if he slims down and improves athletically his upside is very high.

What went wrong?

If you're the Colorado staff and you focused on three good prospects and landed them all, there's not much you can wish you did differently. The Buffs brought Schwartz, Bey and Battey on campus for official visits in the same weekend and landed them all. Colorado has a lot to be happy with in 2017.

What is left to do?

As of now, Colorado is done in 2017. However, roster changes happen during the season and players emerge in the spring. Colorado will exit the fall period happy with its class, but you never know what could happen in the spring.
