Maley To The Big Ten

It looks like Northwestern has its second recruit of the year. LaGrange (IL) Lyons Township swingman Jim Maley has reached a decision.

Just a few weeks ago, Jim Maley indicated that he was growing tired of the recruiting process. Well, he's about to get some rest. BlueChipHoops received word on Wednesday that Maley committed to Northwestern.

"I think that their system fits his type of game. He's a very intelligent player and I think you have to be that way to play in Coach Carmody's system," Contie Stamas, Lyons Township head coach said.

He had been considering Penn State, Rice, Xavier and Davidson to name a few. However, Xavier received a commitment from a forward this week and that took the Musketeers out of the running because they had reached the maximum number of scholarships for the year.

Last season, Maley averaged 17 points a game for Lyons Township and attended the July Nike All-American Camp. Shooter Evan Seacat is the other commitment Northwestern has from the Class of 2002.

Here's a little history nugget: NBA standout Jeff Hornacek attended Lyons Township and went on to play at Iowa State. However, Hornacek was a walk-on with the Cyclones and wasn't offered a scholarship by ISU out of high school.
