Frank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks added again to what is a pretty solid class. The latest commitment comes from three-star combo guard David Beatty. A tough and physical guard, Beatty made his decision on Monday, and now South Carolina has another piece in the mold that Martin loves.
“David is headed to South Carolina,” said Philly Pride AAU Coach Kamal Yard.
Yard continued, “He liked the visit a lot. One of Dave’s things has been he wants to be close to home, but not too close to home. South Carolina is about nine hours away which is fine for him, and he also has an aunt in the area so he will be surrounded by family, and I know that was a big deal to him.”
Along with a family connection to the school, Yard says the job Martin and assistant Perry Clark did recruiting Beatty was impressive.
“I have to give it up to Perry Clark and Coach Martin,” said Yard. “Perry Clark did a tremendous job. There was a time where it wasn’t looking too good for South Carolina, but Perry Clark kept recruiting him hard and around September Dave starting thinking really hard about them. I can’t say enough about the job Perry Clark and Coach Martin did.”
Also Beatty saw a chance to compete right away, and felt his style of play would fit in well with what Martin likes to do as a coach.
“Coach Martin says he likes big physical guards, and with Dave and Rakym Felder, they have two guards who look like free safeties out there,” said Yard. “Also the staff thinks there is a chance P.J. Dozier goes to the NBA after this year, so Dave could have a chance to compete for a starting spot, or at least be in the rotation as a freshman.”
Beatty becomes the fourth commitment to the class for the Gamecocks, and the highest rated of the crew.
