Best To Play In The OVC
Travis Ford has to be a happy camper. This week, his Colonels received a commitment from Lafayette (IN) Central Catholic combo forward Tyler Best.
"I've been down there a couple of times and then I went down this past weekend and just being around the coaches I just felt really comfortable," Best said. "The campus is really beautiful and I felt they could get it rolling."
By get it rolling that means a fast, fun and uptempo style of basketball kind of like Kentucky when Best played in Lexington. "I really believe Travis is going to do at Eastern what Alford did at Southwest Missouri State," Ron Best, Tyler's father said. "They really pursued Tyler aggressively. They are going to let him play the three and they are playing up tempo style like [Rick] Pitino."
Last year, Best averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds as a junior. He played this summer with the Spiece Pistols. He considered Tulane, Wichita State, West Virginia, Bowling Green, Miami-OH and Ohio University.
"Those people are starving for basketball down there," the elder Best said. "Their gym seats 6,500 and they had over 5,000 people last year."
