Illinois gets the news it wanted with five-star Jeremiah Tilmon

After some anxious days, Jeremiah Tilmon made things official with the Fighting Illini on Thursday.

It was a tense last week for the Illinois Fighting Illini, but all is well that ends well for Illini Head Coach John Groce. He got the news he was looking for as five-star center Jeremiah Tilmon made it official and reaffirmed his commitment to the Illini.

After deciding to not initially sign with the Illini at the beginning of the signing period, Tilmon sent in his letter of intent on Wednesday to Groce, and officially announced his decision to stick with his commitment and play for the Illini.

With this signing out of the way and official, Illinois has the best class in the Groce era. Currently the Illini rank No. 8 overall with Tilmon leading the way.

Tilmon is the headliner of the 2017 class, but he is also joined by a pair of four-star guards in DaMonte Williams and Trent Frazier.

Keeping Tilmon in the fold was absolutely huge for Groce. Tilmon is a dominant rebounder, and someone who also can protect the rim by blocking shots. While his defense is ahead of his offense, Tilmon is improving quite a bit on the offensive end, and should be able to provide some scoring punch for the Illini early on in his career.

Also by keeping Tilmon home it stems the tide of five-star in-state prospects leaving the state. This is the first such five-star to commit to Groce and his staff, and it was huge to land and keep him for the future of the program.
