Bridgton Academy forward Bobby Planutis was among the breakout players at the National Prep Showcase this past weekend.
Planutis, a 6-foot-7 forward, had one of the best outings of the event, going for 29 poitns and seven rebounds in a loss to Mount Zion Prep. Planutis went 11-for-17 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three.
Although Planutis didn’t quite replicate his performance in Bridgton Academy’s second game, he did score 14 points.
Offensively, Planutis impressed with his versatility. His scoring attack started facing the rim. He made jump shots off the catch, looked to drive slower defenders to the rim and did a good job of finishing, despite lacking strength. Planutis also showed a good feel for the game, sneaky athleticism and made a handful of impressive passes.
Q&A with Bobby Planutis
How do you think you played individually?
I played pretty good, I could’ve done a little more though. But we just gave up too many 2nd chance shots and stuff and just ran out of gas.
Is that your normal game?
Yeah, I guess. I mean, I have to play a little bigger on this team just because we’re like shorter.
When you’re at your best what’re you doing on the floor?
Probably like just overall doing everything. Like a big wing really. Like for my AAU team I was like a two/three (JB Hoops). We weren’t a sneaker team but we have like two 7-footers.
What schools are you hearing from?
I have 5 offers right now from: Mount St. Mary’s, Niagara, Maine, FDU, and High Point.
Have you visited anyone?
I visited Maine and Mount St. Mary’s.
Any other interest?
Yeah I have like A10 interests like George Mason, Davidson, Rhode Island, and then like everything from down there.
