It’s been a tough start to the season for Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Chuck O'Bannon Jr..
Scout’s 82nd ranked 2017 prospect, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing sprained his foot in the first game of the year, meaning he’s been forced to watch his team from the sidelines.
“It’s been a bit of a struggle; we’re 2-2 right now,” O’Bannon said. “I’ve been in the gym trying to perfect everything I do. I have a lot to show when I get back.”
The good news for the four-star prospect is that he’ll soon have the weight of his recruitment off his back. O’Bannon says that a decision could come in the next few weeks.
“I think I’ll be committed by 2017 hopefully,” O’Bannon said. “I should be ready to make a decision soon.”
O’Bannon broke down what he likes about each of his finalists.
NC State: “I love coach (Mark) Gottfried’s offense. When I went on my visit he showed me his offense and how it will work for me. It’s a basketball town and would be a great place to go to college.”
UCLA: “That’s what I grew up on and everything about them seems home. Everything since I’ve been born was UCLA. I also love the way they’re playing right now.”
USC: “I feel like their playing style is the best fit for me in the country. The way they get up and down, it’s the perfect way for me to play. I know coach Andy Enfield would be good for me since he coached in the NBA and knows what it takes.”
UNLV: “I like coach (Marvin) Menzies a lot and what he sees in my future. I really like his vision for me.”
O’Bannon isn’t giving any hints which way he’s leaning but did describe why he’ll choose the school he ends up selecting.
“Wherever makes me feel most comfortable, simple as that,” he said.
