Matt Coleman

Two schools remain in the mix for point guard Matt Coleman

Two schools remain in the hunt for point guard Matt Coleman as his recruitment begins to head down the home stretch.

There are very few quality point guard options available in the spring signing period. One of the best that is out there is four-star Matt Coleman. Coleman is off to a solid start for Oak Hill Academy, and he continues to debate between two schools in his recruitment.

“I am down to Texas Longhorns and Duke, so it is a tug of war between them,” noted Coleman. “I am signing late, so now I am just watching them play and seeing who might go or might stay. I am just waiting to see when is the right time to commit.”

While Coleman doesn’t want this process to unnecessarily drag on, he admits that balancing between his current high school season and making the decision isn’t easy.

“I’m really just focused on this season right now,” explained Coleman. “I’m not really focused on when I want to make a decision.”

Clearly Duke is playing as well as any team in the country right now, and as Coleman continues to watch them, he likes what he sees from the Blue Devils.

“They are a very unselfish team,” said Coleman of the Blue Devils. “With Jayson (Tatum) and Marques (Bolden) now playing, they are all playing well, along with Luke (Kennard) and Amile (Jefferson). They just look good as a team and they like to play up and down.”

Texas hasn’t performed up to their capabilities so far this season, but Coleman sees the talent on the roster and knows he’d have a chance to fill a major need for them as a point guard.

“Texas is high energy and very scrappy, but they are just missing that centerpiece to bring them all together,” said Coleman. “I like their style of play and how I could be used in that system.”

Do not expect a decision from Coleman before the new year. Once he and his teammates return from an event in Hawaii, Coleman is likely to begin the process of coming to a decision, though a final timetable is not in place for an announcement.
