Big man David McCormack continues to see his recruitment expand

Four-star class of 2018 big man David McCormack continues to see his recruitment expand as his play improves.

The recruitment for David McCormack continues to get crowded. As one of the better post prospects in the class of 2018, McCormack has interest from all over, and he is working to develop his game at Oak Hill Academy.

“It has gone great,” said McCormack of the season. “It was an adjustment to come to Oak Hill, but I have jumped on board and we are developing really good team chemistry. The season is going great and I am enjoying things.”

About what he is working on as a player, McCormack said, “I am slimming down and trying to get more explosive. I am working on running the court better and getting better position on the block. Also I am trying to expand my game a little bit more to get some short range and mid-range jumpers in.”

On the recruiting trail schools such as Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, Louisville, Xavier, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, and many others are all involved.

When it comes to where things stand recruiting wise, McCormack said, “Since I’ve gotten to Oak Hill has continued to skyrocket. I know tonight Louisville and Xavier said they would be there to see me, but there are a lot of schools talking to me right now.”

Last year McCormack was able to make an unofficial visit to Xavier, and he liked what he saw.

“Coach (Chris) Mack and Coach (Mike) Pegues are both great guys,” said McCormack. “I like how Coach Pegues develops the bigs. He is a coach that preaches fundamentals. They also help their bigs expand to jump shooting, and they really stress being ambidextrous, so I like that.”

Louisville is a newer school in McCormack’s recruitment, but the Cardinals are continuing to work to build a good relationship with him.

“They got into my recruitment not too long ago,” said McCormack of the Cardinals. “I’ve been talking to Coach (Kenny) Johnson a lot, and I’ve been talking to Coach (Rick) Pitino some as well. Right now we are just on the basis of building a relationship.”

For now McCormack says the focus continues to be on getting better and his season, but he hopes to make some visits when he gets a chance to see more schools on his list.
