National recruitment for 2018 Arizona post K.J. Hymes

K.J. Hymes is being heavily pursued by schools from the west to the east. Here's the latest on the 2018 post's recruitment.

One of the West Coast’s top posts in 2018 is K.J. Hymes out of Phoenix St. Mary’s.

The 6-foot-10, 220-pound versatile big man is a plus shooter who can not only hit threes but is also adept at taking smaller defenders off the dribble and pulling up or getting to the basket.

“I’ve gotten a lot quicker and more explosive,” Hymes said. “I’ve been training really hard and working out every day.”

Asked who were the schools he’s hearing the most from, Hymes listed five programs.

Clemson is working very hard on me, Cal, Virginia is recruiting me extremely hard, Georgia Tech and USC,” Hymes said, before breaking down what he likes about each of them.

Clemson: “I went on an unofficial out there and their atmosphere is amazing. They love their sports there. They pack every single basketball and football game.”

Cal: “I get calls from Cuonzo Martin all the time. I keep in great contact with them. Their playing style fits me and they love me over there.”

Virginia: “I love them. They come out to the West Coast and I’m the only one they recruit. I feel like I have a very personal relationship with them.”

Georgia Tech: “I went down there and love the city of Atlanta. I think their playing style fits me and they’ve had a great success with players.”

USC: “I think their playing style really fits me. If you watch Bennie Boatwright he’s a 6-foot-11 wing.”

Hymes appears in no rush to make a decision.

“I’m just enjoying the process,” he said.
