Mamadou Doucoure

Rutgers has snagged 2018 hoops pledge Mamadou Doucoure

Rutgers is on the board in the 2018 class with a commitment from center Mamadou Doucoure.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights got some very good news on the recruiting trail early on Tuesday. Three-star center Mamadou Doucoure from Our Savior New American decided to pull the trigger on a commitment and picked the school. This is the most highly regarded commitment since being named coach for Steve Pikiell.

Doucoure is someone who has battled some injuries and hasn't had a chance to show everything he is capable of, but he is a big and physical player who will really rebound and has a lot of upside.

According to Our Savior assistant coach Eric Jaklistch, the decision came down to relationships and comfort with the program.

"Coach (Brandin) Knight recruited Mamadou for three years," said Jaklitsch. "I think that he trusts Brandin more than he trusts about anyone. It was just the perfect fit for Mamadou."

Jaklitsch continued, "He is going to the right league for his style of play, he is playing for the right coach, it was the right time to commit, and he has the staff he trusts in place."

Despite being relatively new to the game of basketball, Jaklitsch feels that Doucoure is developing his game at a nice rate, and he has a chance to be a tremendous addition.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Mamadou will have a very successful career at Rutgers," said Jaklitsch. "It is a good time to be a Scarlet Knight."
