Maryland Holds Slight Edge
Power forward Travis Garrison, a 6-9 standout at DeMatha Catholic, will participate in the Charlie Weber event this weekend. He's playing with Face Systems, a team comprised mostly of DeMatha kids, according to Garrison.
He's narrowed his college focus to three schools: Maryland, Michigan and Miami. He's been to Miami officially, Michigan unofficially and will visit Maryland the weekend of Sept. 29.
"I'm leaning towards Maryland a little bit," Garrison said. "I think I can fit in there very well and it's close to home. They have a good coaching staff and I can play right away."
Garrison will pretty much get a shot at any college he selects. There aren't many top-flight big men remaining and he's certainly one of the top available targets. As the big men begin to succumb to the wishes of programs that are recruiting Garrison seemingly is on the verge of making a commitment sometime in October. Charlotte, which previously had been on his list, is no longer under consideration.
Last season at DeMatha, he averaged 16 points a game. He participated in the ABCD Camp, but wasn't a fixture on the summer circuit, opting to concentrate on his schoolwork.
