2019 Charles Bassey shows talent

Charles Bassey is regarded as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2019 class. Last week, Bassey played in the City of Palms Classic and showed he's so highly touted.

2019 recruit Charles Bassey showed at the City of Palms Classic was he’s so highly regarded.

Playing for St. Anthony out of Texas, Bassey took on stiff competition in the event, matching up with the nation’s top senior prospect in DeAndre Ayton, as well as going up against Putnam Science and their team full of Division-I recruits. In his two games, Bassey went for 18 points and 12 rebounds and 10 points and six boards.

Bassey, at 6-foot-10, is a strong, powerfully built post player. He obviously has good size, plus broad shoulders and lengthy arms, to go with good athleticism. He's a good area rebounder and shot contester around the basket.

“When I’m at my best I get a lot of rebounds and block shots,” Bassey said. “I get points. I block. I just help my team and play for my team.”

“I play like a power forward sometimes,” he added. “Right now I play like a center. For my team I’m a big.”

Although it’s quite early in Bassey’s recruiting process, he’s already reeled in scholarship offers from Texas A&MWestern KentuckyBaylorTennessee and Washington.

“It’s early, but I’m enjoying it,” he said of the recruiting process.

To go with those offers, Bassey has taken unofficial visits to Houston, Western Kentucky, Texas A&M, Baylor, Memphis and TCU.
