Class of 2018 wing Keyontae Johnson continues to make strides as a player at IMG Academy. Johnson, who has nice athleticism and good size, burst onto the scene in the spring, and since then his recruitment has steadily risen.
“I’ve been playing well so far,” said Johnson of the season. “Everything is going good. I am just trying to get more rebounds and also improve in the mid-range.”
Johnson first made his name playing with Boo Williams in the spring and summer, and since then recruiting has only continued to pick up with more offers coming in.
One of the most recent offers was from Minnesota. The Golden Gophers had a chance to watch him recently, and came away impressed with what they saw.
“I don’t know a ton about them as a program, but I got the offer after we played in South Dakota last week,” said Johnson of Minnesota. “They watched me and decided that I fit into their system so they offered me which was good.”
A school that he is more familiar with is Virginia Tech. Traditionally the Hokies have done a good job of recruiting the Hampton area where Johnson is from, and they are working hard to bring him into the fold.
“Virginia Tech has a good program,” said Johnson. “I like how the team bonds together and how the coaches do a good job with the team.”
For now Johnson says he is in no hurry to make a college decision. He is hoping to learn as much as he can about all of the schools after him and make a few visits as well to see the atmospheres around the schools.
