New class of 2017 member Chris Smith knows one visit he will make

KETTERING, Ohio - Athletic forward Chris Smith has decided to move into the class of 2017, and a host of interest is coming his way. So far Smith knows of one school he wants to visit for sure.

Combo forward Chris Smith flashed a ton of potential at the Premier Health Flyin to the Hoop event. The athletic forward looks like he could play on the wing or as a stretch power forward, and now he is getting closer to entering college.

This is Smith’s first year at Huntington Prep, and he feels that things are going well.

“This year is going well,” said Smith. “I came here to develop my game in every facet, and I think I have done that, so I am happy.”

For a while it looked like Smith might spend two years at Huntington, but he recently decided to move from 2018 to the 2017 class.

About that decision, Smith said, “It is just the fact that I didn’t want to do a post graduate year, and I feel like I am ready right now. I just think I have improved enough, and I am ready to move on to college basketball.”

When it comes to his recruitment, things have definitely picked up since he announced the move.

“As soon as I made the decision a few schools came at me,” explained Smith. “My dad is taking care of everything at the moment, and we are working to set some visits at the moment.”

He continued, “I know a couple of places I want to go. I know for sure I want to go to UCLA. At the moment that is the only visit I am for sure about.”

About UCLA, and why he wants to visit, Smith said, “I’ve always wanted to go to the West Coast for school. UCLA has always been one of my favorite schools and a school I’ve wanted to go to, so I am looking forward to taking a visit out there.”

While at this point Smith’s intention is to make multiple visits, he isn’t sure of all of them yet. When he does go on those trips, Smith knows what he will be looking for in a school.

“I want to be somewhere that I want to go,” explained Smith. “Every time I look for a school I ask myself if there was no basketball, would I want to go here? Also I want to go where I am wanted and where I feel comfortable with the coaches and players.”
