Jacob Epperson

Hoophall: Q&A with four-star center Jacob Epperson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Jacob Epperson, Scout's No. 57 overall recruit, met with the media at the Hoophall Classic to discuss the latest in his recruitment.

How’s the season going?
It’s good. It’s a long one but it’s going good.

How do you think you’ve been playing individually?
Not too bad, doing my part on the team, we have such a crazy stacked team, really everyone can do just about everything so I’m just doing my part.

What do you think is your role?
Crash boards, run the floor, basic stuff, just clean up boards and everything.

What’s it like playing with a guy like Jaren Jackson?
It helps, it sort of alleviates pressure off of me as well and then I get to help alleviate pressure off of him as well if he needs it, so yeah it’s a big help.

How are you acclimating to American style of ball?
Not too bad, just got to get used to the athleticism. Back home, no one could jump… Yeah (that’s the biggest difference), it’s much more physical back home but here it’s just quickness and jumping, it’s crazy.

How’s the recruiting process going?
It’s going good, now that my dad is here I’m able to talk with him about it.

Have you had any headway with it in terms of building a list?
Not really not too much, once I talk to my dad and see him in person.

Who is really prioritizing you?
ToledoIllinoisCreighton and that’s about it.

Have you set up/thought about setting up any visits?
Yeah, I started talking to schools like Utah as well, Creighton as well.

What do you like about Creighton?
I like what they’ve done with Justin, he’s sort of like me, they redshirted him one year and now he’s looking at the NBA Draft.

Has that been their pitch to you?
Yeah.

What do you like about Illinois?
I haven’t really watched too many games, I like the way they move the ball and get up and down the court. That’s sort of my style of play, getting up and down the court as best I can.

What about Utah?
I like the way they use their bigs. Getting inside, trying to get the ball inside and the way they let their bigs go.

What sort of things are you looking for in a future school?
I want to develop, be the best player I can be, and play at the highest level I can.

Is Purdue still involved, what’s been their pitch to you?
Their bigs, the way they get it inside, the percentage they get it inside compared to other schools.

What was your visit like and the impression overall?
It’s crazy, because it was only the second school I had been to. Their facilities and everything was crazy.

Was Illinois the first? Are those the only 2 schools you’ve been to so far?
Yeah, but now that my mom and dad have moved over here I’ll be going to some more.
