Binnie At Home In The A-10

Life is good if you're Jimmy Binnie. After a terrific summer, he's headed to the Atlantic 10 where one school is starting to build quite a recruiting class.

The Dayton Flyers aren't messing around. First-year head coach Brian Gregory already owned commitments from Norman Plummer and Brian Roberts and now he's got a third.

On Tuesday, Martin Bros. Select small forward Jimmy Binnie stepped up and made the call.

"I kind of knew all along," Binnie said. "I got along with the coaches really well. They've shown a lot of interest and been behind me all the time. They said I could have a great career at Dayton."

And don't think Binnie's summer success in 2003 won't help shape that career. His Martin Bros. team won the Memorial Day Classic and then earned a hard-fought second place finish at the AAU Nationals where he was the team's leading scorer.

In the end, when it came down to decide, Binnie knew where he wanted to go and he's sure he's made the correct decision. "I can't really explain it. It feels great every time I think about it. When I talk to the coaches I get pumped up and excited. It feels like the right fit."

Wyoming offered him. Utah and Valparaiso were in the mix as well. Scott Drew had done such a nice job with him that Binnie even went as far as to take an unofficial visit to Baylor though in the end, Dayton had earned his commitment.

That begs the question, will his Martin Bros. teammate, point guard Trent Meacham, join him at Dayton? "He's going to come out with his decision in a couple of days. We'll just have to wait and see."
