Derrick Walker commits to Tennessee

Tennessee added their second pledge of the 2017 class, as Derrick Walker verbally committed to Rick Barnes and the Volunteers.

2017 recruit Derrick Walker verbally committed to Tennessee on Friday, he told Scout.

"I'm picking the University of Tennessee and I picked them because my mom and I both felt it was the best basketball move for me and my future," Walker said.

Walker, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound big man, took an official visit to Tennessee at the beginning of January. Walker also considered Georgia and St. John's.

"I felt the program is moving in a great direction," Walker said. "Rick Barnes is a great coach and Rob Lanier did a great job of recruiting me, but also as a young team they showed accountability amongst themselves."

A three-star prospect, Walker brings physical play to the power forward spot. He said he plans to bring effort and energy to the Volunteers.

"I bring toughness, attitude and high-motor," Walker said. "I'm an energy guy who can finish around the rim with both hands. I can also defend and rebound."

Walker joins three-star post player Zach Kent to make up Tennessee's current 2017 recruiting class.
