It was a very good showing for Nana Akenten. A big time athlete, Akenten is also someone who can knock in shots. Akenten hit several threes, played good defense, rebounded down low, and overall showed a lot of ability. Right now he needs to continue to improve off the dribble, but he has potential as a three and D guy in the Big Ten. With his size and athleticism he is a tough matchup for most defenders, and Akenten proved how far his game has come with an impressive 30+ point performance in a winning effort.

Just one day after making his college commitment, Courtney Ramey was a star in helping his Webster Groves team come home with a win. Ramey scored it well, but it was his rebounding and defense that really made the difference. Ramey was all over the court showing improved athleticism, and a high basketball IQ. He shot the ball well from the outside, got to the rim, and then converted 13 of his 14 free throw attempts, which in essence sealed the game. In a five-star point guard battle, it was Ramey who stood out the most and proved to be one of the nation's best.

It was a comfortable victory for Tim Finke and his teammates, and the high level wing absolutely was dominant. After a rough spring and summer shooting the basketball, Finke showed exactly what he is capable of from deep knocking in several triples. Also he was solid going to the rim and proved to be a solid passer as well. Vertically Finke is a good athlete, and finished above the rim on a few occasions. Finke is a tough kid who does a little bit of everything, but he really stood out as a shooter/scorer and his team cruised in the second half to a big win.
While he didn't quite star as much as Ramey in their point guard battle, Ayo Dosunmu was excellent in his own right. Dosunmu collected 21 points and five assists, and was tremendous attacking the rim and getting to the foul line. His jump shot needs to continue to improve, but Dosunmu is as fast as anybody in the country with the ball in his hands, and also has a good feel for how to play. He was impossible to keep out of the lane all night for Morgan Park, and showed the upside he has with his combination of size, length, and athleticism.
Even though his team fell in defeat, Javon Pickett had an impressive showing. Pickett isn't the most athletic kid in the world, but he is tough and plays with a high motor. He kept attacking the rim, with some success, and also showed off his high motor all game long. Pickett doesn't back down from any challenge, and while he needs to continue to be more consistent with the jumper, he can definitely score. Pickett has good size on the wing with solid length, so it is possible that he becomes a solid defender as well in college despite not being a tremendous athlete.
Recruiting: Pickett is signed with Illinois
Even though he didn't technically play at the Bank of O'Fallon Shootout, Mark Smith was seen the night before the event and was impressive. Smith has good size and strength, and also has an excellent feel for the game. Smith can get to places on the court using his strength, and then is a good passer with an impressive basketball IQ. Smith's handle is good under pressure, and also the form looks good on the shot. While Smith won't blow you away physically or athletically, he finds a way to get things done. In a battle of two of the best teams in Illinois, Smith and his team came away as winners and his 19 points were a huge reason why.
