Torrence Watson

Numerous high-major schools are showing significant interest in Torrence Watson

Athletic wing Torrence Watson has significant recruiting interest, and continues to be someone who Midwestern coaches take a long look at.

High level programs keep coming in to watch class of 2018 wing Torrence Watson. The athletic Watson has a high upside because of his combination of size and athleticism, and college programs are beginning to make him a priority recruit.

“The year has been going pretty good,” said Watson of his junior season. “I’ve been working on scoring at all three levels. I think I have been more consistent every game.”

When it comes to his recruitment, Watson says things are really heating up with a lot of college coaches coming to see him.

Xavier came in (Friday), Butler was in (Saturday), Creighton, Marquette, there have just been a lot of coaches coming in,” explained Watson. “Also I have visited Kansas State and Iowa State as well as Creighton.”

About the visit to Iowa State, Watson said, “I liked the atmosphere at Iowa State. It showed a lot because it was during break, so most of the students weren’t there, but it was still a live gym.”

Also Creighton has been one of the most active in recruiting Watson, and he continues to hear a lot from the Bluejays.

“I have a good relationship with Creighton,” said Watson of Creighton. “I talk to Coach (Steve) Lutz every day and Coach (Greg) McDermott weekly, so I have formed a good relationship with them.”

Butler boss Chris Holtmann was in attendance seeing Watson at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout, and Watson has a good relationship with the Big East school.

“I visited Butler as well before the season and it is a good place,” said Watson of the Bulldogs. “I was able to eat with all of the coaches, and it felt like me getting to know them more than a recruiting trip.”

One of Butler’s Big East rivals, Xavier is also beginning to pick things up.

“I haven’t heard too much from Xavier,” noted Watson. “They contacted me before the season started, but not much recently. I am starting to build a relationship with Coach (Travis) Steele.”

Also the Marquette Golden Eagles are a major player for Watson, and he hopes to visit the program soon.

“I have a good relationship with Coach (Chris) Carrawell,” said Watson of Marquette. “I am trying to get there soon to see a game and see what the atmosphere is like.”

While Watson is taking a close look at a lot of schools, he says not to expect a decision soon.

“I will probably narrow things down in the next month, but I plan to take visits in the fall and decide after those,” explained Watson.
