Riley Battin

Several options for 2018 SoCal center Riley Battin

Riley Battin has several scholarship offers with a number of other programs interested. Here's the latest in the 2018 post's recruitment.

One of the most skilled posts on the West Coast in 2018 is Riley Battin, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center from Oak Park (Calif.).

Battin has good size and can score from inside and out with his footwork, shooting ability and touch. He also plays hard, rebounds and passes well for his position.

“I think my game is coming along well,” Battin said. “I’m being very aggressive and I’m improving all around. I feel like I’ve improved my defense a lot; I can now guard twos and threes.

“I improved my versatility on offense and now I want to improve my athleticism and quickness. I’m still tightening my ball handling.”

Battin listed offers from Utah, Northwestern, Davidson, Grand Canyon, Columbia, Cal Poly, Portland and San Francisco, while Colorado, Notre Dame, Virginia, Butler, Cal, Marquette and Stanford are showing interest.

The junior recently visited Utah, which offered him a scholarship.

“It was really impressive,” Battin said of his Utah visit. “I really like their coaching staff. I have a good relationship with coach (Tommy) Connor, Coach K (Larry Krystkowiak) and the staff. It’s a great campus. They put a lot of money into the basketball program there.”

Another program in the mix for Battin is Northwestern.

“I really like the coaching staff,” Battin said. “Coach (Chris) Collins is a great guy. I like how they have put all their focus in making the team good and it’s shown on court. I really like how they’re up and coming.”

At this point, Battin is open in his recruitment heading into the spring AAU season.

“I’m wide open right now,” he said. “I’m looking for the overall best fit for me as a player and a school that is good academically and where I feel at home.”
