Top 50 2018 SF Isaiah Mucius wide open entering spring

Isaiah Mucius will enter spring ranked 42nd in Scout's 2018 Top 100. Where does his recruitment stand?

Entering the spring AAU period, a lot of eyes will be on Isaiah Mucius, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound small forward out of Saint James (Md.).

Scout’s 42nd ranked prospect in the 2018 class is pleased with how his junior season finished up.

“My junior year went well,” Mucius said. “I think I really got a lot more confident in my ball handling. One of my senior point guards went down so my coach wanted me to step up and handle.

“My jumper needs to got a lot more consistent but it’s getting there and could be a key part of my game. I’m trying to be consistent overall, on the defensive and offensive glass. I’m trying to be a hectic player all over the court and being hard to guard.”

Mucius listed offers from Wake Forest, Penn State, Saint Louis, Minnesota, Saint Joseph's, Virginia Tech, Xavier, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Georgia Tech, with a handful of schools particularly staying in close contact with him.

“I think most schools contact me on a consistent basis,” Mucius said. “I talk to the coaches at Wake Forest, Oregon assistants, Penn State I talk to a lot, Virginia Tech and Xavier contact me once or twice a week.

“I think all of them are prioritizing me and being a wing who can play multiple positions is what schools are looking for.”

The four-star prospect has seen a handful of schools already and hopes to take some more trips.

“Early in the year I visited Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and West Virginia,” Mucius said. “Right now I don’t have any visits planned yet. I’ll probably take some in the spring and then take some official visits too.”

Entering the spring, there are no standouts in Mucius’ recruitment.

“I’m completely open,” he said. “I haven’t closed any doors and open to anything and want to see what’s going to come.”

Mucius, who doesn’t have a timetable for when he’ll make a decision, has an idea for what he’ll be looking for in a program.

“I want a place I can get minutes right away,” Mucius said. “Where I can start or come off bench and get minutes. Family feel is key for me. I want to feel at home when I’m there.”
