Source: Mike Rhoades accepts VCU job

It only took a day for VCU to find their next men's basketball coach. Rice coach Mike Rhoades accepted the job on Tuesday.

Virginia Commonwealth has hired Rice head coach Mike Rhoades to take over the reigns of their basketball program, a source told Scout.

Rhoades, 44, has strong ties to the VCU program, where he was an assistant coach for four years, including the season Shaka Smart orchestrated a Final Four run during the 2010-2011 season.

Rhoades was reportedly the runner up for the VCU job two years ago when the Rams hired Will Wade.

Rhoades just completed his third season at Rice. Prior to taking over, the Owls won just five games in 2012-2013. After winning a dozen games in each of his first two years, Rhoades

Wade left VCU for LSU on Thursday, after compiling a 51-20 record in two seasons with the Rams.
