Four-star wing Demetrius Mims had an impressive high school season and continued that with a strong showing at the Metro Challenge over the weekend. The athletic and skilled Mims has a lot of potential and things are beginning to pick up on the recruiting trail.
“We had a slow start to the season, but we started playing better as a team as the year went on and got to the state championship,” said Mims of his junior season. “I thought individually I played better as the year went on, and showed what I am capable of as a player.”
Buzz Williams and the Hokies have made sure to focus on the Baltimore area in recent years, and Mims feels he could fit in well with the program.
“They say my game would be great in the ACC,” said Mims. “I am the type of tough player that they want on their team, and that they have a lot of confidence in me.”
Another ACC school picking up the pace in this recruitment is Pittsburgh. The Panthers are starting to become very involved in this recruitment, and Mims likes what he has seen of Kevin Stallings’ program.
“Pitt is a high level school and I like how intense they are on defense,” noted Mims. “They have guys who can get out and run, and I think I would fit great in their system.”
Look for Mims to go through the spring and summer playing with Team Melo in the EYBL, and then make visits before making any kind of college decision.
