Joe Reece

Joe Reece and Drew Peterson were among the prospects who emerged this weekend at the NY2LA Swish N Dish

The NY2LA Swish N Dish is always a place where kids emerge, and this weekend was no different. Several potential impact players broke out in a big way over the weekend in Mequon led by Joe Reece and Drew Peterson.

While he wasn't a complete unknown, not a ton was expected out of Joe Reece this weekend. Reece plays on one of the most loaded AAU teams in the country, but he more than held his own. A legit 6-foot-9, Reece proved his can play all over the court. He needs to get stronger, but Reece's combination of length, athleticism, and solid skill makes him a very intriguing long term prospect. He needs to continue to get stronger, but Reece has a ton of upside. Reece currently makes a handful of plays a game that are very impressive, and now he is just looking for consistency. As he continues to mature as a player that should come, and Reece could become a major recruiting priority during the April and July evaluation periods.

Quite simply one of the toughest competitors in the country, Talen Horton-Tucker put on a show this weekend. Horton-Tucker isn't somebody who will wow people physically, but he just knows how to play basketball and refuses to be out worked when he is on the court. Leading an undermanned squad, Horton-Tucker was a beast and kept his team in every game. Despite not being super tall or athletic, Horton-Tucker can really rebound the ball. Also he is excellent getting to the rim, and has a decent jump shot to go with. He has to work on his physical conditioning, but there is a lot to like about Horton-Tucker, and he continues to get better.

Hailing from the far north suburbs of Chicago, Drew Peterson has been hidden a little bit on the national radar up to this point, but that should change this spring and summer while running with the Illinois Wolves. Peterson is an excellent player with size and versatility on the wing. Right now the best thing he does is pass the basketball and read the defense. Peterson is someone who gets others involved well, and shows an excellent feel for the game. Also he is a very good shooter who can't be left alone. Athletically he is in't great, but he is more than capable of holding his own, and Peterson showed with improvements why he could emerge as a high-major target during the spring.

Running with Playground Elite for the first time, Keyshawn Justice looks like someone who should be a difference maker for his team in the EYBL. There is no doubt that the best thing Justice does is shoot the basketball. Justice was a marksman all weekend from beyond the arc knocking down as many as seven in one game. Also he is a solid passer and someone who gives good effort on the glass. Justice has to continue to improve off the bounce, but his ability to make shots makes him someone defenses always have to account for.

http://www.scout.com/player/216282-deontay-long?s=75

Milwaukee area players tend to be known for their toughness and 2019 forward Deontay Long seems to fit that mold. A kid who is just a basketball player, Long has an excellent feel for the game and can really pass the basketball. Also Long is a solid athlete who is very strong and will rebound and battle on the post despite being somewhat undersized. A player with a unique game, Long shows a lot of talent, and as he continues to get adjusted to playing against longer and more athletic kids, Long could be someone who emerges on the high-major radar.
