Torrence Watson talks coaching changes and his school list

Wing prospect Torrence Watson is one of the best players in the state of Missouri in the 2018 class. He talks coaching changes and upcoming in-home visits.

Coaching changes can always have a big impact on a kid's decision, and one player who saw a lot of change at the schools on his list was Torrence Watson. Several local programs had coaching changes, and now Watson is working to figure out what is best for him, while also focusing on having a monster spring with Ramey-Jets United.

During the high school season Watson averaged 28 points and eight rebounds and led his team to a state title. Now Watson says he is making it a major focus to continue to get stronger so he can finish through contact better.

On the recruiting trail Watson has significant interest from schools such as MissouriIllinoisButlerMarquetteVanderbiltKansas StateXavier, and others.

Missouri recently hired Cuonzo Martin, and Martin has hit the ground running working to build a relationship with Watson.

"I am starting to build a good relationship with Cuonzo Martin," noted Watson. "I talked to him like four of the last five days last week, and we are starting to build a good relationship. I got offered by them on Thursday."

About the school in general, Watson said, "I don’t want to go too far away from home because I am somewhat of a momma’s boy. It is good that the school isn’t too far away, only about 2.5 hours."

Illinois also has a new coach in Brad Underwood, but it is a familiar face that remains recruiting Watson.

"I haven’t talked to Coach Underwood yet, but when Coach (John) Groce was there it was Coach Jamall (Walker) who was recruiting me so I am glad he stayed on."

At the moment Watson says no new schools are involved, but he did mention that several programs should be coming in soon to make a pitch to him when the April contact period opens up on Thursday.

"I think within the next few weeks I will have some in-home visits with Vanderbilt, Marquette, Butler, and Missouri," noted Watson.

Look for Watson to make some visits and continue to build relationships before coming to a college decision.
