Mario McKinney

Numerous schools are closely tracking Mario McKinney

Three-star guard Mario McKinney is one of the toughest and most athletic perimeter players in the Midwest. The class of 2019 product already has numerous schools showing him significant interest.

Brad Beal Elite came home with the 16 and under title at the NY2LA Swish N Dish, and a big reason for that was the play of Mario McKinney. The highly athletic McKinney was making plays all over the floor, and he continues to garner significant high-major attention.

McKinney is ready to show his ability in the spring, but looking back on his sophomore season he feels it went well.

"I think I had a really good high school year," noted McKinney. "I just played with a chip on my shoulder every time I went out there, and I think I played well."

When it comes to his recruitment, a lot of schools are making McKinney a priority already.

"Missouri, Auburn, Kansas State, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Saint Louis, DePaul and some other schools are talking to me," said McKinney. "I have made visits to Kansas State and Missouri."

Missouri and new coach Cuonzo Martin have already reached out, and McKinney says he even has a connection to the program.

"I don’t know too much about Missouri to be honest," admitted McKinney. "I do know that they are talking to my high school coach and that my cousin, Jimmy McKinney, went there, but I don’t know too much about the school."

When it comes to Kansas State, McKinney said, "They have a really nice campus. I’ve been doing research on them, and I think that they fit my style of play, so I like them a lot."

For now McKinney says he is simply trying to have a good spring and isn't focusing in on recruiting. He hopes to take several more visits and gain new offers before taking a serious look at his college decision.
