Versatile wing Robert Woodard is looking to have a big spring playing with Mississippi Express in the Nike EYBL. The athletic and tough Woodard is showing improvement already, and is at the top of the wishlist for numerous high level schools.
"I am working on everything," said Woodard of his focus this spring. "I am trying to get better with my conditioning, ball handling, shooting, and defense."
When it comes to his recruitment, a handful of schools in the South are already making him a priority.
About the Crimson Tide, Woodard said, "I have a good relationship with them. It started about a year or two ago when I went to their camp, and ever since then it has been a strong relationship."
Woodard's father played at Mississippi State. Though there is a family connection he says there is no pressure to go to Starkville for college, but Woodard admits to liking the program and what they are selling.
"I’ve been around the program all my life so I am pretty familiar with it," said Woodard. "Now that they have Coach Ben Howland he focuses on guards so I like that."
One school that has been extremely active recruiting Woodard is Baylor, and Scott Drew and his staff are really appealing to him at the moment.
"I like Baylor a lot," noted Woodard. "They are a Christian team that is strong with faith so I like that, and I like the program as a whole as well."
When it comes to the Seminoles, Woodard said, "They are big on guard play and they like to get up and down and things like that. So I like Florida State a lot."
For now Woodard says he is in no hurry to make a decision and that he would like to take official visits after the summer, but he does know what he is looking for in a school.
"I am just looking for a place with a special relationship with the coach," said Woodard. "I want to have a special relationship with the coaches from day one I am at a school. Also I want to go to a school that plays fast paced. I am not one who likes to hold the ball."
