Tyrese Maxey

Local schools are all over 2019 prospect Tyrese Maxey

Five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey is having a solid spring playing with RM5, and has the interest of many local colleges.

Five-star class of 2019 point guard Tyrese Maxey is expecting to have a big spring running with RM5 in the Nike EYBL. A big and physical point guard, Maxey is good at getting to the basket and also is a capable jump shooter. With that he has a lot of schools making him a priority.

For Maxey he already has significant ability, but he is hoping to improve one major part of his game, "I’ve been working hard on my mid-range game. I know I can get to the basket, but players are big at the next level so it is important for me to have a good pull up jumper."

On the recruiting trail numerous schools are already making Maxey a major priority.

"Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Georgia Tech, and SMU have been the schools recruiting me the most," said Maxey. "I took visits to SMU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M this year."

About Texas, Maxey said, "I like Texas. They have a nice head coach, Shaka Smart. I spoke with him a few weeks ago, and I like the way they play."

SMU is close to Maxey's home, and he continues to build a strong relationship with the Mustangs' staff as he has been a regular at their games.

"It is local and close to my family and I like the atmosphere there, and the coaches are great guys," said Maxey of SMU.

Texas A&M has recruited the state very successfully the past few years, and Maxey is impressed with the Aggies.

"It is cool I like them," he said of Texas A&M. "I am friends with T.J. Starks who is going there, so it’d be fun if I went there as well."

For now the focus is on getting better, but Maxey does know what he will be looking for in a school when the time comes to make a decision.

"I am just looking for somewhere that I will be able to play right away, and a place that will help me get better and win," said Maxey.
