Top 70 point guard Robert Phinisee talks recent meetings and more

Four-star point guard Robert Phinisee is a top target of many high-major schools and had a recent meeting with Indiana Head Coach Archie Miller.

Four-star floor general Robert Phinisee is one of the top playmakers in the class of 2018. A pass first point guard, Phinisee has a high IQ and excellent feel for the game. That skill set combined with improved strength and athleticism has his recruitment continuing to take off.

A long time target of schools such as IndianaPurdueButler, and Virginia, Phinisee is seeing more high-major programs coming in to his recruitment. Ohio StateIowa, and NC State have all reached out recently and plan to recruit him hard.

On Friday Phinisee had his first face to face meeting with new Indiana boss Archie Miller, and he says the meeting went well.

"The meeting went really well," said Phinisee of his talk with Miller. "Coach Miller met me after school and showed me film of how he runs his offense and things like that. He also told me his plan and how he intends to bring a national title back to Indiana."

While the meeting went well, Phinisee admits that he has to continue to build a strong relationship with the new staff in Bloomington like he did with Tom Crean and the old staff.

"I’m still very interested in Indiana, but I also have to build a relationship with them like I did with the last staff," said Phinisee. "I feel like as long as they stay in contact we will have a chance to build that relationship."

While Indiana has already met with Phinisee, Butler is going to be coming in soon, and the Bulldogs continue to make him a top priority.

"I think Butler is coming to see me soon," said Phinisee. "We were hoping to have an in-home recently but had to reschedule."

He continued about the Bulldogs, "I like Butler a lot. I stay in touch with Coach (Ryan) Pedon and he and my mom have a real good relationship, so I like that a lot and really like the program."

The school that is closest to Phinisee's home is Purdue. A local product, Purdue has been working hard to keep him home.

"Coach (Jack) Owens was the main person recruiting me, but now it is Coach (Brandon) Brantley," said Phinisee of Purdue. "We had a good conversation for like 30 minutes a few days ago, so we are building a bond and I like Coach (Matt) Painter a lot as well."

Another school beginning to pick things up is Ohio State.

"They have started calling me more," said Phinisee of the Buckeyes. "They tell me that they really need a true point guard in 2018, and think I'd fit in well to their system."
