One of this weekend’s breakout performers at the UnderArmour Association was D.C. Premier’s Saddiq Bey.
The 6-foot-7, 195-pound 2018 small forward from Washington D.C. Sidwell Friends School has good size for a wing, long arms, is a capable jump shooter, plays hard, rebounds and defends.
“I’m a playmaker, scorer, rebounder and versatile,” Bey said. “Whatever the coach asks me to do, I’ll do it.
“I’m working on everything. Conditioning, strength, my mechanics and I just want to keep getting better at everything.”
The emerging prospect broke down the latter three offers.
Notre Dame: “I’ve been following them since I was a little kid. I know it’s a great program and I love coach (Mike) Brey; he’s from the area I’m in. I’m really excited, I just found out they offered me a day or two ago.”
Rhode Island: “Coach (David) Cox is the one recruiting me. I know a lot about them and followed them throughout the tournament.”
Temple: “I visited them last Friday and it was remarkable. It was a really good experience.”
There’s no leader for Bey at this point but he knows what he’s looking for in a school.
“I’m open to anything right now,” he said. “I’m trying to embrace the process and I’m open to anybody. I’m looking for academics, a winning mentality, somewhere I can help me get better as a player.”
