It was a big junior season for Nigel Hawkins. The athletic scoring guard put up massive numbers and led his team to a state title. Now Hawkins is playing for Basketball University on the adidas Gauntlet, and is pulling in high-major interest and offers.
"I think I had a good high school year and we won the state championship in class 6A, so it was a lot of fun," said Hawkins of his junior season.
He continued about his game, "I have been working on everything. I am trying to make all of the right reads, make open shots, and also just get stronger."
On the recruiting trail things continue to get more crowded for Hawkins who has picked up numerous offers in the last few months, and has more high-major attention than ever.
About the offer from the Aggies, Hawkins said, "It was nice to get that offer. I really like the SEC and the coaches seem like great guys there."
Kelvin Sampson is working to keep a lot of the top Houston area talent close to home. Already the Cougars boss offered, and Hawkins is very interested in the program.
"It is awesome to have them offer," noted Hawkins. "We have a lot of talent in Houston, but a lot of kids leave the city. I know if I were to stay there they are starting to get more local kids, and also they are renovating the arena and the facilities are getting a lot better."
For now Hawkins has no plans to make any visits. He is hoping to play out April and see who is interested before taking a long look at his recruitment.
