The state of New Jersey is loaded with talent and one of the top prospects is Jalen Carey. The combo guard who is running with the Playaz Basketball Club in the summer had a good start to his EYBL season with his showing in Hampton, and with that significant offers have come his way.
About his play over the weekend, Carey said, "I think I played well. I feel I have improved from the high school season. We went 2-2, and we are looking to go 4-0 next weekend, but individually I feel I played well and showed what I am capable of."
About the explosion of offers, Carey said, "It felt good. I am just enjoying process right now. It is starting to get a little heavy at times, but it felt good to get those offers."
Florida laid the groundwork to offer before the start of the evaluation period, and Carey is very interested in the Gators.
"Coach (Mike) White called me (Monday) and Coach (Darris) Nichols came by last Wednesday to my school," explained Carey. "I am trying to get familiar with the program, but I like the coaches. I have family in Florida so they want me to visit, and they feel Florida would be a good fit for me."
New Indiana boss Archie Miller and his staff also evaluated Carey and came away impressed. At the moment Carey is just beginning to hear from the Hoosiers.
"My AAU coach, Jimmy Salmons, told me about the offer, but I haven't talked to Coach Miller yet," noted Carey. "I am hoping to set a visit to go there there soon. I don't know a lot about Indiana, but I know it is a great program and that Victor Oladipo went there. I feel that I play like him in terms of athleticism and scoring, so that is good."
For now look for Carey to continue to focus on his game and then begin to set visits following the spring evaluation period.
