One of the top prospects to emerge at this weekend’s adidas Gauntlet in Emerson (Ga.) was MarJon Beauchamp.
The 6-foot-5, 160-pound wing with the Northwest Panthers 16u squad plays high school ball with Seattle Nathan Hale.
Beauchamp is an extremely long and versatile prospect who has good size, plus athleticism and can score from all three levels due to his handle, floater, aggressive mentality and jumper.
“I can shoot really well,” Beauchamp said. “I’m really long and use my length. I drive a lot. I’m working on being stronger with the ball.”
It hasn’t taken schools in the Northwest to figure out Beauchamp’s significant upside, as Washington, Seattle and Eastern Washington have all offered, along with Cal Poly.
Coached by former Washington and NBA standout Brandon Roy at Nathan Hale as well as being a local prospect, Beauchamp has obvious connections to the Huskies.
“It’s a great program,” he said. “They didn’t have a great year but I like the new coach and their staff.”
Beauchamp is far from getting serious about his recruitment but does feel that academics will play a role in his recruitment.
“I’m just looking for a place to get my degree,” Beauchamp said.
