UConn gets pledge from 2017 Isaiah Whaley

UConn added a pledge from 2017 forward Isaiah Whaley during an official visit on Thursday.

Kevin Ollie added to his 2017 recruiting class on Thursday, as 2017 forward Isaiah Whaley verbally committed to the Huskies.

Whaley informed Scout of his commitment to Connecticut late Thursday night.

"Really it's just a great fit for me," Whaley said. "Their plans fit my plans. They run a high tempo offense and that's the offense I fit in."

Whaley, of Baltimore (Md.) Mount Zion Prep, also considered Seton Hall and Miami (Ohio). Whaley committed during his official visit and said meeting with their strength coach, Carlos Daniel, was among the factors in his decision to pledge.

"One of their coaches, worked with one of my favorite NBA players, Anthony Davis," Whaley said. "The strength coach, I was impressed with what he was talking about. He got him to gain weight and that's what I want him to do with me. That set it over the top."

Whaley also cited a common bond with Ollie when discussing his reasoning for committing to UConn.

"With him it was just a mutual relationship," Whaley said about Ollie. "He came from a similar background that I came from. That connected me with him. There aren't a lot of coaches that come from the same background that I came from."

Whaley, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is regarded as a three-star prospect on Scout.

"I can help them immediately with my defense and running the floor," Whaley said. "I feel when they put more weight on me I can help more inside."

The Huskies now have three pledges in the 2017 class. Whaley joins Josh Carlton and Tyler Polley to make up their 2017 recruiting class.
