EYBL: Top 30 2018 SG Kevin Porter has Pac-12 heavy recruitment

EMERSON, Ga. - Kevin Porter lived up to his status as Scout's 29th ranked 2018 prospect this weekend at the Nike EYBL. What's the latest with the four-star prospect's recruitment?

Kevin Porter Jr. has long been one of the west’s top prospects and the Seattle Rainier Beach shooting guard lived up to his reputation this weekend at the Nike EYBL.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing scored at will for Rotary Select, using his size and length to be a difficult cover for opposing guards on the perimeter, where Porter consistently took opponents off the dribble and buried jumpers or got to the basket.

“I’ve been able to score at will,” Porter said. “My defense is also getting better; I’m able to lockdown others whenever I want. I’ve been putting up more shots and my jumper is getting more consistent.”

Since the spring Evaluation Period started, Porter says he’s especially heard from four programs.

“I’ve been talking to Washington, UCLA, Washington State and Oregon State the most over the last month,” said Porter, before breaking down what he likes about each of them.

Washington: “I like the new coaches. Coach (Mike) Hopkins is a good dude and of course WC (Will Conroy) is like my big brother and he’s still there. I know a lot of the guys there. It’s a lot different but a lot is the same too. I feel comfortable with coach Hopkins there.”

Washington State: “They just hired coach (Ed) Haskins from Garfield. Me and him are very cool and he’s been talking to me lately.”

Oregon State: “Their coaches have been at my games; both workouts and in EYBL. I’m still learning about them.”

UCLA: “I’ve seen them at my games. I’ve been to the campus and know they’re at the top in a lot of categories. “

There have been some questions about whether or not former Washington head coach and current Arizona assistant Lorenzo Romar would recruit Porter to UA, which remains unclear.

“I’ve talked to coach Romar a bit but I don’t know if he’s going to recruit me at Arizona,” Porter said.

Scout’s 29th ranked prospect doesn’t plan on taking his time with a decision.

“I’m getting closer and closer every day,” he said. “I’ll most likely decide around August or September.”
