Five-star point guard JaVonte Smart has narrowed his list of schools to six, he told Scout on Monday.
“I felt like it was time to and those are the schools that are hitting me the hardest,” Smart said. “This gives me time to look at these schools.”
Smart broke down each of his six finalists and shared what he likes about each of the programs:
FSU: Florida State, they have a good coach. They play hard and they play the same style as I play and the ball is the point guards hands a lot.
LSU: “It’s the home school. They are pretty good and they are in the SEC. So it’s so close it’s a good thing… “I’ve talked to [Will Wade] a few times. He’s young and a hard worker.
Kansas: Kansas they let their guards play. Like [Devonte] Graham and Frank Mason and Josh [Jackson], they let their guards go and I like how they play.”
Kentucky: “It’s one of the best schools in college basketball. John Calipari is one of the best coaches in all of college basketball. They get their guys to the league and they work hard.”
Oklahoma State: “They’ve been with me all the way. They’ve just been on me hard and I’ve talked to the coaches and I’ve built a good relationship with all the coaches.”
UCLA: “It’s a long ways from home. I like their style of play and I like what they did with Lonzo Ball. They are a shooting team and they run and they score the ball. I like the way they play.”
Thus far, Smart has taken unofficial visits to two of the schools on his list – LSU and Kentucky. Smart said he doesn’t have any upcoming visits planned. In terms of a next step in his recruitment, Smart is looking to take his time and get to know his finalists.
