No. 2 Mohamed Bamba commits to Texas

Mohamed Bamba, the nation's No. 2 recruit, announced he is headed to Texas.

2017 five-star prosepct Mohamed Bamba announced a commitment to Texas on The Player's Tribune on Thursday.

Bamba, a 6-foot-11 center, picked Texas over Kentucky, Michigan and Duke. Bamba conducted recent in-home visits with the Longhorns and the Wildcats.

This is a significant addition for Shaka Smart, as Bamba ranks as the No. 2 overall prospect and the No. 1 center prospect in the 2017 class. Adding Bamba, gives Smart an immediate replacement for future first round NBA Draft pick Jarrett Allen.

Bamba, who possesses a 7-foot-7 wingspan and a 9-6 standing reach, has the type of length that impacts games. He's known as one of the best shot blockers in the country and his upside is through the roof.

Bamba was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand All-American games.

With the addition of Bamba, Texas' five-man 2017 class moves to No. 3 in the recruiting class rankings. This makes back to back years that Smart has landed a top five class. In 2016 their class ranked No. 5 overall.

Texas' class consists of four other top 100 prospects, including Jericho Sims, Matt Coleman, Royce Hamm and Jase Febres.
